Today’s instalment of Tumbleweed is free for the taking… hope you enjoy!
Desert Island Discs, produced by BBC Radio 4, has been around for ages. Yet somehow I’ve only recently discovered it.
I don’t know where it’s been all my life.
This binge-worthy podcast is built around a simple premise: interview celebrities from all walks of life about what eight songs they would bring to a desert island. It’s part interview, part playlist, and one hundred percent delightful.
Malcolm Gladwell, Keith Richards, Dame Judi Dench, Cillian Murphy, Graham Nash, Greta Gerwig… the list goes on, the catalogue of previous guests vast. It’s a candy store of musical gems, and offers intriguing insights into what makes these storied people tick.
From the opening (quirky, old fashioned) musical score, to the surprisingly revealing interviews, to the awesome music itself, these 30 minute shorts are like a bonbon I have to limit to no more than one a day.
I have to make it last, after all.
How many times have you heard a song and thought of exactly where you were when it first came into your life? Celebrities are no different. The result is an endlessly entertaining merry-go-round of fascinating insights. Plus a soundtrack! Have I mentioned I’m a fan??
Which brings us to the obvious question.
What would YOUR Desert Island Discs look like?
What song or songs could you not live without? Which ones accompany life-defining moments?
It’s a fun list to contemplate.
I’d LOVE to hear from you about your favourite tracks. Please share in the comments!

I made Sarah a road trip CD of my life's "soundtrack" - similar idea. Everything from the "Tomorrow" from Annie Soundtrack, to John Denver, (Country Boy) Madonna (Holiday) Dixie Chick's (Wide Open Spaces) , and Bob Marley (3 Little Birds)
Love it! A life soundtrack... nice twist! Classic choices, such great stuff. I haven't heard any of these for awhile. I'll spin these tunes while cooking later today. Thanks Erin!
